Scapino!

Adapted by Frank Dunlop and Jim Dale

Working on this show was a great deal of fun not only because of the material but also because as a team we made the directors dreams come true.

Robert Francesconi, the director, wanted to set our production in a circus ring and have a gramophone that became an additional character in the show providing the music or mimed presence of music.

It was also a pleasure to work with Robert to find practical items to be used as well, such as service bells and buckets that the actors used through out the show.

With the help of our sound engineer, Kate Brown, we were able to deliver Robert's dream. However, we did take it a few steps further. Since the only time that sound was actually heard coming from the gramophone was either during the House Announcement or when the full Company was singing we build a reinforcement system for the gramophone that allowed us to image to the center of the ring no matter where you were in the theater.
